Get to know David Den Houten

You may know me as the Missaukee County Prosecutor, but you may not know that I am a proud graduate of Wayne State University, current Vice Chair of the Missaukee County Republican Party, a proud citizen of Missaukee County, and a father to two beautiful daughters.

I grew up in Kentwood, Michigan. I graduated from Grand Rapids South Christian in 1990. I graduated Grand Valley State University with a political science degree in 1994. I graduated Wayne State University Law School in 1999. I have been a practicing attorney for almost 25 years. I am a licensed attorney in New York as well as Michigan.

I am accustomed to hard work. Prior to college, I worked on a farm, delivered newspapers, worked in fast food restaurants, to name just a few jobs. During college, I paid my way through school by working at a couple of hospitals in Grand Rapids as a material handler. In Law School, I attended night classes and worked during the day as a property manager in Detroit Housing projects.

I successfully practiced corporate law for over 15 years. In those 15 years, I worked in various positions throughout the United States working in roles as a Managing Attorney, Vice President, General Counsel, and Chief Compliance Officer of an over $1 billion dollar company.

In 2016, as my first child approached schooling age, I wanted to make a change in my life. I wanted to move from an important role in corporate governance to a role directly impacting individuals lives. I wanted to make my permanent home here.

Upon moving to Northern Michigan, I opened a small general practice law firm and represented criminal defendants and respondent parents in abuse and neglect proceedings as part of my practice. I also worked as a Public Defender for Missaukee/Wexford counties.

My family and I live in Lake City, MI. Both of my daughters, Ana (10) and Alejandra (3) go to school in Lake City.

As Prosecutor, I have devoted 100% of my time to the work as Prosecutor. Meaning, although permitted to do so, I have not taken any outside, individual clients.

Becoming the Missaukee County Prosecutor has been the biggest honor of my life. With the support of the community, I hope to continue to serve in this role for as long as the voters of Missaukee county will continue to re-elect me.
